MEDICINAL PLANTS IN CASES OF FLU AND VIRAL INFECTIONS
GINGER (Zingiber officinale Roscoe)
Ginger is a tropical plant from South-East Asia from which the root is used in the kitchen. Ginger root is already used for centuries in Asian countries for its healing qualities. It namely contains a beneficent essential oil with a lot of active substances which comes in handy in case of the flu.
A cold and the flu are caused by viruses. Ginger is active against these unwanted intruders! It prevents these viruses from developing even further and it will reduce infections.

Just like ginger, cinnamon is very efficient against all different symptoms of the flu, like nausea and all sorts of digestive disorders such as diarrhoea and intestinal cramps.
In short, cinnamon has many health improving qualities which can be useful when you have got a cold or the flu: disinfectant, antipyretic, improving digestion and raising the immune system.
CLOVE (Eugenia caryophyllata Thunberg)
Cloves are dried flower buds of a tropical tree from South-East Asia. Especially in an old Indian medicine, called the Ayurveda, clove is used for centuries for its beneficiary qualities.
Cloves contain among others the element eugenol, a strong disinfectant which is still used at the dentist’s.
It is active against both viruses (antiviral) and bacteria (antibacterial).
This pronounced antiviral function works mostly against the Influenza virus: virus that causes the flu. Because of these disinfecting and anti-inflammatory qualities, clove is also a effective remedy in case of infections of the airways.
RAVINTSARA (Cinnamomum camphora cineol)
Ravintsara is a strong anti-infectious tree from Madagascar. Especially the use of essential oil of the leaves is known.
Ravintsara is active against infections from viruses and bacteria. Especially flu viruses are sensitive!
This herb rich in eucalyptol, makes it easier to cough up mucus and has an improving effect on the respiration.
Because ravintsara improves your resistance, you can apply it in case of a cold and the flu and also in case of complications of the flu.
So this herb gives you more energy which comes in handy with the typical tiredness when having the flu.
TEA TREE (Melaleuca alternifolia Cheel)
A final plant that we mention is the tea tree which originates from Australia. The needle shaped leaves are rich in essential oil, actually working as a natural antibiotic. It is capable to kill many types of bacteria (wide spectrum).
Moreover, it is shown that the tea tree is also active against viruses.
Next to strong disinfectant qualities, this herb is a beautiful immune stimulant; it namely reinforces your resistance. Tea tree occurs in many natural antibiotic formulas, where it is combined with other essential oils like cinnamon and clove. This essential oil is efficient in case of all sorts of infections and inflammations, especially those of the airways.
