MEDICINAL PLANTS IN CASE OF A SORE THROAT
AGREMONY (Agrimonia eupatoria L.)
Agrimony is a little forest plant which contains a lot of tannins. These substances have 3 important effects after vaporizing in the throat:
- they work astringent and analgesic
- they kill bacteria and viruses
- they prevent inflammations
Because of these three qualities, agrimony is an excellent remedy against all sorts of throat disorders like sore throat, hoarseness, angina and aphta.
Agrimony is not irritating, not in the mouth or throat, barely in the stomach.
We barely notice a slight contraction in the mouth, but the function is definitely present!
CLOVE (Eugenia caryophyllata Thunberg)
Cloves are dried flower buds of a tropical tree from South-East Asia. They are rich in an essential oil which contains a very strong disinfectant, namely eugenol.
This element locally anaesthetizes and disinfects.
One can vaporize locally in the throat the diluted essential oil with a spray.
Because the essential oil works so strongly, only a small dose is required. You will notice immediately the sore throat disappearing.
The spray is best used as soon as possible when you feel the sore throat coming. The bacteria can not multiply and so you avoid an inflammation of the throat.
Clove is one of the best herbal remedies against throat inflammations!
SAGE (Salvia officinalis L.)
Sage is known from ancient times as a healing herb. Because of its delicious taste the sage leaf is used in the kitchen. It contains an essential oil which is strongly disinfectant and locally analgesic.
Sage is namely active against all different types of bacteria, like streptococcus, which causes very often throat inflammations.
Even viruses and fungus are sensible to this plant.
Sage is a good remedy against inflammations of the oral cavity, oesophagus and airways. A spray with the right dose of essential oil is very effective against a sore throat, inflammation of the gums and fungous infections (thrush).
